The National flag carrier, Air Niugini and the PNG Tourism Promotion Authority (PNGTPA) have formed a collaboration agreement worth K1.5million, over the next two years.
Air Niugini will support various tourism promotion programs aimed at boosting the PNG TPA’s capacity to deliver the objectives established in its Strategic Plans and the Government’s Medium-Term Development Plan.
This significant agreement was signed between Air Niugini’s Acting Chief Executive Officer(A/CEO), Mr Gary Seddon and PNGTPA’s CEO, Mr Eric Mossman Uvovo in Port Moresby today.(Tues 23rd April).
Under the agreement, Air Niugini will provide support worth K1.5million, towards production of visual promotional materials to be displayed on Air Niugini aircraft to promote PNG Tourism Destinations, and support travel to and from PNG by TPA Personnel, travel writers, and tourism influencers.
Mr Seddon in signing the agreement said PNG TPA and tourism across our beautiful country needs the support of key stakeholders like Air Niugini. It’s vital that we collaborate to develop our tourism potential in Papua New Guinea.
“As the national flag carrier, we are excited to support the PNG TPA in its efforts to develop PNG tourism. With this funding support, we will be carrying out joint marketing and advertising activities with PNGTPA to promote the natural beauty, unique cultural attractions, historical sites and other tourism activities through various marketing mediums, as well as shine a light on SME tourism operators.”
”Air Niugini has a pre-eminent role to play in the development and promotion of tourism. Tourism represents one of the largest potential employment opportunities – both directly and indirectly. Teaming up with PNG TPA, will help to realise a major economic and social development catalyst in PNG.”
PNG TPA CEO, Mr Uvovo described the partnership as a necessary tool to promote the country as a tourist destination.
“Today marks a significant milestone in our efforts to elevate Papua New Guinea as a premier destination. Through this collaboration, we aim to improve the quality and diversity of our tourism products and services, as well as our infrastructure and connectivity, to realize the country’s full potential,” Uvovo said.
Both Air Niugini and PNGTPA recognize the importance of sustainable tourism in PNG, which creates positive impacts for local communities, the environment, and the country’s rich heritage.
This initiative strengthens the potential of tourism development in driving the country’s economy and social progress, generating income and employment opportunities.
