A Trip to Villa Karai

If you are looking for a peaceful weekend out of Port Moresby, Villa Karai is the perfect spot. Just over an hour drive from Port Moresby, this beaut of a place is green, quiet and the kind of place that can give you that mental therapy away from the hustle and bustle of Port Moresby city.

Now, the place has a unique name. Villa is, well, Villa. “Karai” however is the Motuan word for cockatoo – as in the bird. Many decades or even a century ago, the land on which Villa Karai is built was the home of the Cockatoos – a gathering place for these white beautiful birds. The owners when building Villa Karai, decided to name it Karai.
