Port Moresby, August 29th, 2017 | Bank South Pacific (BSP) through its Group Risk Management Unit (GRMU), built a new wait shelter or “Hauswin” at the Gerehu Hospital’s out patient.
This was part of the Bank’s community project initiative that was officially handed over, yesterday, to the hospital community, by BSP’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Robin Fleming.
Mr Robin Fleming said, “BSP is honoured to support such projects as we are not just a corporate organisation, we understand the hardships that everyday people go through and contributions such as this, will improve the lives of our people. More importantly, these projects are undertaken by our staffs who are also a part of this great community.”
CEO of the Hospital, Dr Steven Yennie expressed gratitude to the staff and management of BSP for choosing Gerehu Hospital for the project.

Our patients and caretakers waited outside the hospital under hot and uncomfortable weather. The improvement will now allow for the sick to wait in a comfortable area to be served. The Hospital serves the populated suburb of Gerehu and nearby suburbs, serving up to 200 patients daily. Gerehu Hospital is also one of the top referral hospitals in NCD.
“We have a vision for the hospital, in terms of service delivery and infrastructure development. And while we work on funding for this projects, we are grateful for BSP’s assistance, as it isn’t the first time for the Green Bank to come on board with such projects,” Dr Yennie said.
“At this point in time the hospital is managing to accommodate the large population of patients and we need to improve and upgrade facilities while we attend to daily operations.”

The project was initiated on 9th August, 2017 costing K25, 000 and the Staff from BSP’s GRMU also volunteered their time over the past three weekends to ensure this project was completed as scheduled.
The construction of the new Hauswin is just one of 48 worthy community projects in education, health, environment and sports which BSP is delivering throughout PNG for 2017.
