One of the biggest hurdles for many, if not, all local sporting clubs is finding sponsorship.  It’s not easy.  But clubs don’t help themselves at the start because they do not really understand what sponsorship is and what is expected from them when preparing and submitting a sponsorship proposal.

 

Ultimately, the company/potential sponsor has the last say.  A proposal can be rejected no matter how good it looks. The least a club can do is give it its best shot when preparing an attention grabbing proposal.

What Sponsors Don’t Really Look For

A lot of sponsorship requests tend to revolve around a sense of sympathy i.e. most of the players are unemployed, we’re grassroots and the list goes on.  Companies hardly pay attention to these reasons unless they’re looking to donate, which is a completely different thing.

Sponsorship is a business deal

A valuable return is ultimately the underlying factor as to whether or not a sponsorship proposal has any chance of success.

 

Sponsorship is a commercial transaction.   A club needs to offers a benefit(s) to the potential sponsor in order to secure sponsorship.  The potential sponsor on the other hand may accept those benefits in return for a set of jerseys, registration fees or whatever the benefits agreed on.  The company sees value in the relationship and therefore “buys” the benefits.  Creativity is often the key to grabbing a sponsor’s attention that the club has something of value that night be worth looking at.

Be creative

Some of the creative benefits might include brand exposure, hospitality, signage opportunities, merchandising, media opportunities, public relations, the opportunities are endless if you put a lot of thought into it.
