According to Catholic New Agency, Pope Francis could be heading to Papua New Guinea later this year.  The trip may include Indonesia and East Timor.

 

The Agency reports that Indonesian Muslim leader Sheikh Yahya Cholil Staquf who leads the 50 million member Nahdlatul Ulama movement, met the Pope this week that it is a possibility.

 

The Vatican has not yet confirmed such a trip.

 

Nearly all Papua New Guinea citizens are Christians, and 26 percent of the population is Catholic.

Pope St. John Paul II was the last to visit Papua New Guinea in 1984.
