Congratulations to former ABC’s Pacific Correspondent Sean Dorney on being awarded the AO for distinguished service to Australia-Papua New Guinea relations, to the broadcast media as a journalist, and as an author.
Mr Dorney is the recipient of one of 50 AOs announced today in the Queens Birthday Honours.
Sean Dorney AO MBE CSM FAIIA is an Australian journalist, foreign correspondent, and writer with an extensive career covering the Pacific with a particular focus on Papua New Guinea. He was the Pacific and PNG Correspondent of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation on and off from 1975 to 2014.
The former correspondent’s relations with Papua New Guinea goes beyond his work. He is married to Pauline of Manus Island.
In sport, Mr Dorney was also a successful rugby league player having represented the Papua New Guinea Kumuls in the late 70’s and also serving as captain.
