Opportunities for Papua New Guineans in Australia
Young Papua New Guineans particularly from the Motu Koitabu and Central Province villages are flying into Australia in numbers to work mostly in Australia’s Agriculture sector under the Pacific Labor Mobility Scheme.
The first batch that flew in the first quarter of this year has somewhat opened the flood gates for more applications from Papua New Guineans to take on this rare opportunity to work in a foreign country and earn a comfortable living.

Unsurprisingly, most of the applicants are unskilled and unemployed citizens but there is now a growing number of employed young men and women resigning from their current jobs to take on this rare opportunity.
It appears there are two divisions taking on applications: NCDC and Central Province as authorized representations to receive and process applications.
It is a cumbersome process for many who have never undergone a formal employment process but agents are given strict criteria when receiving applications.
Most of those accepted are heading to fruit and vegetable farms while others are working as meat packers on the fringes of the main cities in Australia.
Those known to us are working in Queensland, New South Wales and South Australia and there are more heading to other areas like Melbourne.
It’s a life changing experience but it requires a lot of hardwork and commitment while at the same time missing their families.
