PORT MORESBY: Ilimo Dairy Farm is adding yet another product to its growing number of PNG made dairy products.

Hot on the tails of Ilimo Dairy Moo Snax – a delicious dairy treat made with locally produced Ilimo Fresh Milk, comes Ilimo Dairy’s yoghurt.

Yogurt is a dairy product that is created by bacterial fermentation of milk using ‘yogurt cultures’.

The bacteria causes fermentation of lactose and produces lactic acid.

As one of the oldest and most popular fermented foods, yogurt is known around the world for its great taste and nutritional probiotic benefits.

The health benefits of the lactic bacteria in yoghurt are well known. These include immune system support; protection against food poisoning bugs, reduce constipation, stomach acidity and diarrhea; ; stronger bones and fresher breath.

A highly nutritious food, providing protein, and an array of vitamins and minerals, natural yoghurt in particular makes an extremely healthy snack.

Ilimo Dairy will begin with producing individual serves of both flavored and natural yoghurt.

Business Development Manager Gallit Tamirsaid :“ Ensuring that more and more Papua New Guineans can have access to the health benefits of calcium rich dairy products is an important consideration for Ilimo Dairy.

“Yoghurt is a probiotic super food that has been an important source of protein for centuries in other parts of the world.

“We are proud to be the very first commercial dairy in PNG producing yoghurt that is made by locals for locals.

“Yoghurt is currently expensive and difficult for local consumers to afford because everything sold at supermarkets is imported.

“The nutritional benefits of yoghurt are now more accessible to ordinary Papua New Guineans.”

Ilimo Dairy Yoghurt will be in outlets in coming weeks, joining other Ilimo Dairy products: Fresh Milk, Flavoured Milk, Milk Stik and Ilimo Dairy Moo Snax.

“Although the dairy is producing various flavours of delicious ice cream, at this time Ilimo Dairy ice cream is only available to commercial caterers, hotels, and restaurants.

“Ilimo Dairy has been working hard to develop a sustainable commercial dairy industry in Papua New Guinea.

“The dairy is a partnership between operators agribusiness firm Innovative Agro Industry, Kumul Agriculture, and the people of Central Province.

“It has been performing exceptionally well with fantastic support from the local community.

Chairman of Innovative Agro Industry Ilan Weiss said :“ We are very happy with the progress of the dairy.

“As Papua New Guineans start to see locally produced dairy products in supermarkets we hope they will continue to choose local options so the industry will continue its growth.

“We have had excellent feedback on all our products to date from the public, especially in relation to the fantastic flavor profile of our locally produced dairy products.

“We know consumers won’t be disappointed once PNG’s first ever commercially produced yoghurt hits supermarkets”.
