It’s been great news in the PNG Aviation industry as two young Papua New Guineans flew in high colours to get their pilot license.
Elisha Sam son of Bank South Pacific director and Accountant Arthur Sam from Woodlark Islands got his first solo congratulations this week.
For those unfamiliar with the term “first solo” it is the first solo flight of a new pilot that comprises of the completion of a takeoff, and usually a short flight and safe landing, by him or herself. Flying such a flight is a milestone known as soloing.
Being solo pilot of an aircraft is different from most other situations in that the pilot has not only to be able to fly and navigate the machine in a competent manner but he/she also has to be able to cope with unpredictable developments like mechanical failure, bad weather etc. Well done Elisha.
Cameron Hosea also from Milne Bay and New Ireland Province and son of former Air Operations director of the PNG Defence Force Ronald also graduated with his licence having spent much of his training with the New Zealand Defence Force.
Cameron’s proud mother Leani couldn’t hold back her excitement when shown the photo above.
Full credit to the parents of these fine gentlemen. Best wishes!
