City Pharmacy recognises unsung heroes

PNG’s leading retailer City Pharmacy under its community initiative Pride of PNG Awards for Women recognised 6 hard working and dedicated women last night at the Parliament Function Room.

The women each with incredible and inspiring stories to tell were recognised in the presence of PNG’s Governor General His Excellency Grand Chief Sir Michael Ogio, Lady Esmie and invited guests most from the corporate sector.

The organisers of the event advised that there were a significant amount of entries but the judges Alexander Rheeney, Serena Sumanop, Marry Johns, Charles Gorogo and Judge Nerrie Eliakim did their best to name one awardee for the six categories.

We will highlight each winner next week.  The first category winner was Monica Paulus:


The Bravery and Courage Award went to Monica Paulus. Her story revolved around helping women and children who were accused of sorcery within the community they lived. Monica herself had also experienced fear amongst her community as she too was accused of being a sorcerer.  Through this difficult times she faced, Monica did her best to save children and women who were threatened to be killed because of sorcery.
