Papua New Guinea’s Melanesia broadcaster Click TV launched its satellite services last Friday in PNG’s most Northern town Kavieng in New Ireland Province.
Following the successful launch of Click TV in Port Moresby last November, Click TV rolled out satellite services on Friday with subscribers only needing a one–‐meter satellite dish to receive over eighteen channels of television.
In what was described by locals as revolutionary, Click TV rolled out several dishes in New Ireland Province with Kavieng Club being the first ever deployment of the satellite system.
Click TV, owned by Click Pacific Limited PNG, uses Intelsat 19 to distribute television channels to 100% of Papua New Guinea.
“The Kavieng launch is special in that it demonstrates that Click is now available in any part of the country. It’s extra special because it’s the first time that a PNG based broadcaster has used a 1 meter receive satellite dish to stream content”, said Richard Broadbridge, Managing Director of Click TV.
Available channels include three Australia Channels produced by Sky News Australia including Sky Sports News, SKY News Australia, Sky Business News, AXN, Sony Channel, BeTV, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, MTV, Celestial Classic Movies, Hope TV, RT, NHK and soon Trace Urban and Trace Sports Stars.
Click TV has also announced the appointment of Seeto Kui has its national distributor with satellite dish kits now available in their Lae and Port Moresby stores. Click has also appointed resellers in the different regions with Kavieng’s reseller using Kavieng Club as a demonstration area.
The company also announced a partnership with Rural Development Services Limited to roll out dishes to remote PNG using renewable energy products including solar energy.
“We have proven that we’re here to stay. Papua New Guinea deserved this technology and we will soon prove how it will work to improve the livesof the people by providing high quality educational, religious and entertainment programmes to every citizen”, Broadbridge added.
