Port Moresby, September 22nd, 2017 | Bank South Pacific (BSP) has refurbished a longstanding refuge Centre for survivors of family and sexual violence, run by PNG Lifeline in Port Moresby.
PNG Lifeline has served and assisted hundreds of victims, generally women who have gone through Gender Based Violence. The organisation provides refuge, counselling, training and assists with rehabilitation.
BSP’s Retail Strategic Business Unit (SBU) took on the challenge to renovate and bring life to an old refuge house that was abandoned a few years back.
The staff contributed to washing of the building, cleaning up the yard and assisting to repaint the building. The project was delivered within 4 weeks.
Renovation was done by local contractor, and this included replacing of walls, roof, fly wire and ablution facilities.
Chairman of PNG Lifeline Clyde Willis said, “The refurbishments mean that more families will be able to be housed in safe emergency accommodation.”
“We very much valued such work done by a recognised financial institution like BSP for the community. We are more than proud for the new look that the victims can now enjoy,” Mr Willies said.
BSP Retail Staff Development Manager, Raymond Mojica said, “The bank is pleased to be able to provide this support to PNG Lifeline. The project also reminds staff of the issues that are faced by men, women and children in the family and community. Sometimes we are unable to help, but contributing to provide a safe place is a start. I am sure; this contribution will make a difference.”
