Like a Phoenix rising from the ashes, CPL Group is finally going to re-open its Stop N Shop Waigani Central in a week;s time.
Last July 2015, in the middle of the Pacific Games here in Port Moresby, a fire unexpectedly gutted the 4,000 square meter supermarket and forced its closure for three years.
Amazingly, the CPL team have made great strides rebuilding the old Stop N Shop Central Waigani temporarily in just a span of two months.
CPL Group’s Managing Director Mahesh Patel added:
Thanks to the diligence of our local police and fire department during the fire. The exterior structure of this facility remained intact and damage was mainly restricted to the interior.
Over the past several months, the facility had a complete interior refinishing, with its reconstruction of all walls and utilities.
The structure once again houses the big meat section, its own bakery, a modern liquor store with the largest range of wines, City Pharmacy and a clinic.
A welcome edition to the supermarket will be a stand alone Prouds Duty Paid store where they will offer an extensive range of chocolates, perfumes, jewelry, cosmetic bags, fashion items and a host of other items.
CPL is still supporting the local community by patronizing the local farmers for their fruits and vegetables which comprises 70% of their local produce section.
Mahesh Patel continued
The past few years has been very really hectic for us. going from our devastation, our loss and our gerehu fire last year, we were out there planning, working, rebuilding.
CPL Group is PNG’s biggest retailer with homegrown retail brands like Stop N Shop, City Pharmacy, Hardware Haus and Boncafe. They are also in joint venture agreement with Paradise Cinemas, Jack’s of PNG and Prouds Duty Free stores.
