CPL Group promotes Women In Leadership

One year after the launch, more than 50 women managers and supervisors have undergone the training program and have completed modules 1-3.

When planning the company’s strategic plans for the upcoming years, CPL Group CEO Ravi Singh emphasized the inclusion of a solid focus on the empowerment of their female employees.

During last year’s International Women’s Day, CPL Group launched the “Women In Leadership” Program at Grand Papua Hotel to celebrate the important occasion. The objective of this program is to develop aspiring female employees from all CPL business units to be future leaders in the organization.

One year after the launch, more than 50 women managers and supervisors have undergone the training program and have completed modules 1-3.

Due to the success of the program, CPL has added 4 more modules to enhance the leadership skills of their women leaders.

Just recently, around fifteen of their women managers and supervisors have graduated and completed the modules. The graduation was attended by CPL CEO Ravi Singh, their executive management and Wings Education, their trainors.

“Empowerment programs that invest in female employees pay off in multiple ways,” said CPL Group’s CEO Ravi Singh.

“Not only do they build the capacity of the organization by equipping women employees with the knowledge, tools, and confidence they need to succeed in the workplace, these programs give women the skills to take on leadership roles at home and in their communities. Enabling the success of our women employees will be crucial to our company’s future and expansion plans.”

Singh added that their women empowered program is now the cornerstone of CPL’s programmatic plans moving forward. He said that those who have undergone the program showed extraordinary results in their feeling of self-empowerment.

One of their women managers, Margaret Sulia, said “I’m very thankful for the opportunity to be included in this program. I honestly think it is an important platform to accelerate gender parity at the workplace.”

CPL recognizes the capacity that it has as a PNG’s biggest retailer to effect real change, and is bringing together a range of their female leaders from various business units to strengthen the impact of their Women In Leadership program.

CPL has a long history of engagement with women empowerment programs – most popular of which is the Pride of PNG Awards for Women, a flagship initiative aimed at honouring ordinary Papua New Guinean women doing extraordinary things. It’s the country’s first of its kind award system when it was introduced in 2007.

CPL is also one of the first corporate entities who supported the Meri Seif Ples program when it was launched in the yesteryears and is still its ardent corporate supporter till now. CPL also actively supports the programs of Business Professional Women’s Club and their longest sports sponsorship for more than two decades now is the City Pharmacy Rebels Netball Club. Earlier this year, CPL sponsored the Women’s Division of PNG Cricket.
