Port Moresby, June 23th, 2017 | Situm Clinic, one of the most busiest clinics outside of Lae City in the Morobe Province received a new antenatal ward, thanks BSP Staff at Lae Top Town.

Mrs Joyce Tura, the Officer in Charge (OIC) of Situm Health Centre was overly pleased as she accepted the completed project handed over by Lae Top Town Branch Manager Ms. Agnes Mark, this week.

The Situm Clinic serves over 100 patients daily. In their 2016 annual report, the clinic registered over 500 pregnant mothers who came to the clinic for antenatal clinic.

“On our record only 87 came to deliver in this clinic,” said OIC, Mrs Joyce Tura.  “We hope that the others did go to other hospitals and clinics for assistance in child birth.”

“Our aim is to help reduce infant mortality rate in the District. During a community meeting, the community  agreed that a better antenatal ward would greatly assist majority of mothers in the remote parts of the district who can came to stay while waiting to deliver,” said Mrs Tura.

“The community project that BSP delivered has addressed this request made by the community to improve the antenatal ward.” said Mrs Tura

The new ward was completed, fully kitted with beds, mattresses, a new shower room, hand basin and toilet. The BSP team also extended a section of the ward to make a storage room for medical equipment and supplies.

The 4 week schedule project was completed in 6 weeks due to the weather.

We cannot really express how grateful we are of this contribution, but we know that we will be meeting our aim, as we can cater for more mothers and give the attention needed to facilitate a safe delivery.  Thank you BSP and the Lae Top two Branch Staff.

Bank South Pacific (BSP) through its staff, continue to deliver community projects aimed to enrich communities, leave lasting changes and add value in education, sports, health and environment initiatives.

The BSP staff at Boroko Branch also renovated a waiting shelter for antenatal clinics at the 6 mile community clinic.  The team built new seats and extended the shelter.
