Former PNG Kumuls fullback Menzi Yere is facing deportation according to a BBC news article.
The article states that the Yere’s visa is to expire in December and the club has turned to its supporters for help to raise the necessary funds to pay the required fee for Yere to attain citizenship.
The article read :
“A fundraising campaign has been set up to help a rugby league player who is facing deportation to Papua New Guinea after spending ten years in the UK.“
“Sheffield Eagles supporters are hoping to raise £5,000 to pay for Menzie Yere and his family to attain citizenship.”
His current club Sheffield Eagles said in a statement that the situation was “urgent and pressing” and backed supporters efforts to help.
A crowdfunding page set up on 31 October has so far raised more than £1,500.
