WINNER of the 2015 Do Kokoda competition Mr. Jonathon ‘Jono’ Oreo from Perth, Western Australia arrived in Port Moresby today after an unforgettable time spent enjoying his prize – a weekend getaway at one of Papua New Guinea’s most coveted holiday destinations, Tufi Resort in the Oro Province. Joining him on his Tufi holiday adventure was Jono’s lovely wife Carolyn.
Parents of three beautiful young children and small business owners, the couple were thrilled at their win and were eager to relax and explore this beautiful part of PNG. Jono was encouraged to enter PNG Tourism Promotion Authority’s ‘Do Kokoda’ challenge after walking the Kokoda Track in April 2013 to raise funds for childhood cancer.
PNGTPA marketing director Ms. Alice Kuaningi and Australia-New Zealand marketing officer Mr. Michael Taia had the pleasure of meeting Jono and Carolyn on their final day in PNG.
When asked about their time in Tufi, smiles stretched across the tired but content faces “It was one of the best experiences we’ve shared together” and gently holding hands they further added “This was like our second honeymoon”. “Walking Kokoda was a life changing experience. It made me a better person, a better man, a better husband and a better father” said Jono recalling his Kokoda experience.
Proudly showing us pictures of their journey in Tufi, Carolyn picked out her favourite picture from her phone – a river with elegant tall trees growing on the banks and a beautiful forest canopy. “The locals took us in their canoes through this. It was amazing and so peaceful.”
