For those coming to work earlier this morning, particularly those working at the Waterfront area of the central business district would have seen navy ship making its way to the Lancron Navy Base this morning on the harbour.
For those curious as to where the ship is from, NCD Governor Powes Parkop confirmed in the social media post on Facebook that the ship is a Japanese Frigate JS Sazanami (DD 113).
Commanding Officer Shoji Ishikawa of JS Sazanami (DD 113) paid the good Governor a courtesy call this afternoon.
In attendance at the courtesy call were his staff officers and Japanese Ambassador to PNG His Excellency Satoshi Nakajima. The Commanding Officer wished the Governor well as the city prepares to host the APEC Leaders summit in November.
According to Governor Parkop, the JS Sazanami is here until Saturday and leaves for Honiara in the Solomon Islands before it makes its way back to Japan.
They should be open for public visit tomorrow with UPNG and Secondary schools student doing organize tours.
