I knew its a hash decision but its necessary within this time. Congratulation to the new Chancellor Kennedy LLB and Vice Chancellor Prof Sumbuk.
Below is the full media release from appointed Chancellor Jefferey Kennedy.
The suspension of the Acting Vice Chancellor has created a vacuum within the University Management Hierarchy. This vacuum has to be filled to ensure business continuity and normalcy is restored as a matter of priority. In the interest of UPNG and all stakeholders, the Interim Council of UPNG has resolved, with immediate effect, in its special meeting of today (Wednesday, 23rd January 2018) as follows:
The UPNG Interim Council at its meeting on Wednesday the 23rd of January 2019 at the University of Papua New Guinea Council Room resolved to appoint Professor Kenneth Sumbuk as the Acting Vice Chancellor for a term of 12 months or until the appointment of a permanent appointment of the Vice Chancellor.
Professor Sumbuk as the former Pro Vice Chancellor of the UPNG for many years. He is familiar with UPNG and the staff and the operation. He is best suited to facilitate the investigations and reviews being proposed by the government. His appointment is effective the of the decision of the Council.
The UPNG Interim Council at its meeting on Wednesday the 23rd of January 2019 at the University of Papua New Guinea Council Room resolved to rescind the Council’s earlier decision to increase tuition and boarding/lodging fees. Tuition and Boarding and Lodging Fees for 2019 shall remain the same as the fees charged in 2018.
Those who have paid their 2019 fees already need not worry as the university bursary will reconciled and notify the respective students concerned on the remedial actions to be taken by the management in due course including reimbursement.
