Fijian retailer Prouds has described the opening of arrivals and departures stores at Port Moresby Jackson’s International airport in Papua New Guinea as a major highlight. The stores were officially opened by Prime Minister Peter O’Neill on July 2 following a National Airports Corporation upgrade.
Prouds manager Kiran Rathod, who revealed the company served more than 5,000 customers in the first two weeks of operations, coincided with the Pacific Games, said: “Response from the general public as well as travellers has been great.
“It’s such a relief when you hear words like ‘awesome, cool, wow’ and more from travellers who now feel that shopping for luxury brands is more accessible in Papua New Guinea than it was ever before.”
He added: “Liquor, confectionary, perfumes, electronic items, jewellery and handbags topped the most wanted list,” Rathod said.
The new outlets have also provided employment opportunities for 49 locals.
