The City Pharmacy PNG Lewas Squad that will be touring Apia, Samoa for the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier for the East Asia Pacific (EAP) Region was announced today at Waigani Central.

The fourteen (14) woman City Pharmacy PNG Lewas squad will be lead by Pauke Siaka with Helen Buruka and Ravini Oa appointed her deputy. Majority of the squad have been training in Port Moresby for the past couple of months.

For the first time in Cricket PNG’s history, the City Pharmacy PNG Lewas squad will comprise of players from four (4) provinces, with Hinamutawa Philip (Milne Bay), Geathie Kilapat (Oro) and Daniella Luwenica Saiwa Ila (Morobe) joining eleven players from the National Capital District.

CPNG’s High Performance Manager, Rarua Dikana has been pleased with progress of the new look City Pharmacy PNG Lewas.

“The High Performance Department are impressed with the team selection. The Lewas have been very focused during training sessions for the past four months and we are confident with their progress,” said Dikana.

“The Lewas are currently ranked 13th in the world and number 1 in the East Asia Pacific Region; we are confident this team will maintain that and take us even further up in the ranks if they qualify during this tournament.”

CPNG’s Women’s Director, Iammo Launa who was on hand to announce the selection was pleased with the squad selected.

“I congratulate the players in making it to the national squad to represent PNG. There are also three (3) new girls selected from outside Provinces which is the first so I thank CPL Group of Companies, with your support women’s cricket is able to develop and excel to new heights.”

City Pharmacy, who joined forces with CPNG earlier in the year to sponsor the national women’s cricket team, The Lewas were proud to be associated, said CPL Project Officer, Oti Sarufa,

“At CPL one of our corporate objectives is community initiatives particularly with women and so CPL is proud to be the sponsors for the women’s cricket national team. We wish the Lewas the best in this qualifier and encourage them to be positive role models as ambassadors for PNG,” remarked Sarufa.

The City Pharmacy PNG Lewas will take on Japan and hosts Samoa in 50 Over matches. The winner from this event will progress to the global qualifier for the ICC 2017 Women’s Cricket World Cup which will be held in England. The Qualifier will take place in either late 2016 or early 2017.
