The 2016 BSP Men’s National Snooker Titles cues off on a high note with K20,000 sponsorship, thanks to Bank South Pacific (BSP).

The Bank is pleased to continue its association with the Papua New Guinea Billiard and Snooker Association (PNGBSA) as the Naming Right sponsor of the Men’s National Snooker Titles.

PNGBSA vice president John Chan thanked the Bank for its continued support.

“BSP has been supporting the PNGBSA host this prestigious event on its annual calendar for the past 14 years. This support has contributed immensely to the sports growth and development and in particular participation by the young men and juniors around the country,” Chan said.

Presenting the cheque to PNGBSA, BSP NCD Area Manager, Stanerd Wai said, “We are proud to be a part of an event which brings in players from around the country to participate in a competitive and socially friendly environment.”

“Through this partnership, we have seen an increased recognition and participation at all levels throughout Papua New Guinea,” He said.

Wai thanked the supporting sponsors and wished all the players the very best in the competition.

The Minor (B Grade) Championship starts on 7th to 11th September followed by the Major (A Grade) Championship from 14th to 18th September.

Eight time PNG champion Djorne Fong has nominated to defend his title for the 9th consecutive year while younger brother Monty will defend the minor title.

“Last year’s finals in the both the Minor and Major championships went down to the final frames and this year will be no exception with more young talent and exciting snooker to be displayed,” Chan said.

He said a total of 40 players were expected to nominate for the Major Title and 48 for the Minor Titles.

Chan thanked the management and staff of the venues – Aviat Club, Dragon’s Den and Lamana Q Club – for the use of their facilities during the 2016 BSP National Men’s Snooker Titles.
