It’s Bye from Boas

  • Diminutive PNG Kumuls Halfback Watson Boas, penned an emotional farewell to his fans here in PNG while crediting a host of people that have made him the person who he is now.

Champion player and an even better person. Keep smiling, keep on showing your Colgate set of teeth – you’ve PNG proud.

    Here’s the original message:

    ————————–

It has been a wonderful journey and one I will remember for the rest of my days, representing the country with the PNG Hunters since 2016, but it is the end of a chapter in my life.

This season has been one of the most hardest for the PNG Hunters with the challenge to defend the Intrust Cup and we almost made it to the finals.

I played with pride and passion for the PNG Kumuls that won two of its four matches played this year.

It is impossible to give credit to all people who contributed towards my career and achievements so far.

I want to thank the following people:

A special word to Coach Michael Marum, a great mentor and an unbelievable coach. Thank you for making me the person I am today and showing me the true meaning of success. Whether I made a serious mistake or saved the game in the final seconds, you were always there to show me where I could improve and how to achieve the next level of success. Without you, I would not be the person I am today and would never have achieved any success. For all this and so much more, I am forever thankful.

To the coaching and training staff of both the PNG Hunters and PNG Kumuls, you provided excellent knowledge and know-how of all things. Your hardwork and dedication pushed me to do my best during training sessions.

To the management of the PNG Hunters Club and the PNG Kumuls, thank you for your commitment in helping me achieve my goals and making me what I am today. You created a team environment and thank you for looking after everything and allowing us to only need to think about playing. Thank you for taking care of all the match day prep, week in and week out allowing players to concentrate on the task at hand.

To the PNGRFL management, CEO Reatau Rau and Chairman Sandis Tsaka, thanks for all your support and inspirational post match speeches!! When you can take the politics out of a rugby club and leave the players to play rugby it is no mean achievement, but it is something achieved which needs to be complemented.

I would also like to thank all sponsors for the continued support including naming rights sponsors PNG LNG and SP Brewery, National Gaming and Control Board, Boroko Motors, Digicel PNG, Coca-Cola, Air Niugini and Coral Sea Hotels (Gateway Hotel).

It was an amazing honour to wear the PNG Kumuls and PNG Hunters jerseys.

To the fans and supporters, thank you all for believing in me and making me believe in myself. To finish the season with a 100% home record shows that the support was as prominent at home as away. Thanks to all those who came and cheered us on.

All the amazing players I’ve shared locker rooms, hotel rooms, airplanes and dinner tables with – massive moments of joy, pure bliss and agony and disappointment – thank you for making my life richer and improving my life as a person and a player. I’m forever thankful! I would like to thank all those who played and wish you continued success in the future.

There are many things which motivates me to have made the decision to move to England and play for the Featherstone Rovers Club in the Championship – family, faith, future, and my purpose.

To my family and close friends, thank you for the support, encouragement and motivation. Your encouragement was always unconditional and constant, no matter the outcome of my efforts. In one way or the other, you all taught me a love for God, about greatness and to be different in the way I do things.

I’m looking forward to the next chapter of my life and professional career filled with excitement and I believe the best is yet to come!

Thank you all, tenku tru olgeta!
    God Bless!
