In April 2016, the Wantok Musik Foundation, in association with the PNG National Museum and Art Gallery, will embark on an official launch of the organisation by staging a live concert at the Nora Vagi Brash Amphitheatre on the 9th of April.
Wantok Musik Foundation, formed in Melbourne Australia in 2006 records, releases and promotes culturally important music and arts from Melanesia as well as facilitating meaningful connections between Indigenous Australia and the Melanesian region.
The aim of the launch is to introduce the foundation and music label to PNG, and provide a platform for promoting and preserving PNG Cultures through music and arts within the region and throughout the world.
Featuring performers George Telek MBE, Richard Mogu, Ben Hakalitz, Pius Wasi, Radical Son (Tonga / Australia), Tha Feelstyle (Samoa) and many more, the event will bring together the local community to celebrate our cultures and traditions.
In the days leading up to the performance, Wantok musicians and directors will facilitate a series of workshops with local students, youth and young artists, with information sessions from APRA AMCOS on the importance of collection agencies and copyright as well as celebrating culture and identity in artistic creation and performance.
The concert will begin at 6:30pm at the Nora Vagi Brash Amphitheatre, PNG National Museum, Port Moresby, on Saturday the 9th of April. Tickets are available on the door. Entry fee is K40 Adults, K20 children under 12.
