Back in the 80’s and 90’s music in PNG stepped up another level. The introduction of music videos changed the landscape of music and a horde of local artists seriously considered the possibility of taking their music from the studio to the screen.
The entertainers brought a different kind of entertainment to the entertained and given this new form, there was certainly an air of excitement for the “next release”.
It didn’t really matter who the artist was and whether it was a favorite song. Rather, it was just a matter of seeing them on screen.
It was also a time when living conditions were much better, people were more happier during those times which made entertainment itself more enjoyable to watch. In short, most people were in a good mood and songs more often than not, had a positive vibe to the audience.
One of the most popular style of music was a medley. Lista Laka’s PNG medley was a real hit indeed and given that the songs comprising the medley were by different artists and different dialects, it seemed as though Lista had created a “happy go lucky” song for PNG.
Now the back up dancers. Where do we start? These were raw talent. And one must understand that there is a sense of “shyness” among Papua New Guineans to “act” on screen. So it did take a lot of guts to do what they did but they certainly paved the way for the rest to follow.
Now, take a look at the video above of Lista Laka’s PNG medley and tell us the name of the song, the artist and the Province from which the song originates. There are 5 songs in the medley.
