BSP PNG | Port Moresby, 16th January, 2018 | BSP Kavieng Branch handed over the renovated and refurbished Maternity Ward facilities to the New Ireland Provincial Health Department at Kavieng General Hospital on Friday January 12th, 2018.
The renovation of the facility saw the fixing and changing of fly-wires, window strips, frames, walls and installation of lights and new toilet facilities valued close to K25, 000.
The extended wing of the ward was also given a healthy and fresh look for mothers to visit for deliveries with all the inner aspect of the block completely transformed.
Speaking at the handover ceremony last Friday, BSP Kavieng Deputy Branch Manager, David Pilai said the bank immensely believes in contributing positively to the development of society. He said: “We hope that the renovation of the ward will help the province and country to achieve the Health Development Goal on maternal mortality.”
“We are convinced that thousands of mothers that pass through this ward will receive quality healthcare service henceforth which will save many lives,” said Mr Pilai.
Kavieng General Hospital CEO, Dr Alex Wangnapi said, the intervention of the bank was of great prominence and thanked BSP for their kind gesture. He expressed his appreciation to the bank, adding that the incorporation of bank and the community will very much support challenges with maternal mortality.
“Now the ward has been elevated to the standard, to us it is the best in the province compared to other private and public hospitals,” he said
“It compares favourably with other hospitals that I have worked in around PNG and we are very grateful for that,” he added.
The refurbishment is part of the Banks community project initiative for 2017 that is spearheaded by each BSP Branches around the country.
