The people of Maprik District will now be able to do their banking closer to home instead of embarking on the long, expensive and sometimes dangerous journey into Wewak to do their banking.

BSP opened a sub branch on Thursday 13th March 2014, two years after the last branch was forced to close in 2012.

Prime Minister Peter O’Neil and East Sepik Governor Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare were present to officiate at the opening.

BSP’s return signals a new beginning in the provision of banking services to Maprik District.

According to BSP Deputy General Manager Retail Banking Kili Tambua, the return of the bank is testament to commitment to providing banking where the people are.

“We would like to thank Member for Maprik – John Simon, the Maprik District Administration and Community Leaders, for partnering with us in having this sub-branch stationed here. This is a demonstration of the community taking ownership of banking services”, said Mr Tambua.

“We would also like to remind the community to take ownership of this sub-branch. This is something that must be done in order to ensure that we continue to provide banking to our people”

“Banking services which we provide are for the benefit of the whole community, and so it is paramount that the community works together with BSP to ensure that the bank’s staff and property are well looked after”, he added.

People of Maprik District in East Sepik Province turned up in their thousands to celebrate the return of BSP.
