Most SME’s are looking for ways to cut down on costs and increase profitability. The internet has presented us with an abundance of tools and ideas to help us improve. In fact, there’s just too much on the internet it can be frustrating to decide which one to choose.
Today, we’re going to give you some of the tools that we use for our business which have worked wonders. Obviously, each business is different but the tools we’ve listed below can be used by any business and can be adjusted to suit the business.
Competition is increasing and the internet economy has in fact made most industries more competitive.
We love Upwork when it comes to hiring freelancers. Why, because the rates are competitive and you have control of who you want to hire. This freelance website has worked for us especially on the graphic side of things when we want some artwork done. We’ve also enjoyed the benefit of hiring qualified editors to review some of our work. Not only are the rates competitive, we’ve been impressed with the quality of the work.
Xero is a popular accounting software. Book keeping has been made much easier with this cloud based accounting. The paperless type of accounting suits us best and the fact that reports can be done anytime also helps us analyse our financial performance.
When it comes to collaboration and team work, Google Documents and Excel are recommended. The fact that these documents can be stored on Google Drive means that the documents can be accessed anywhere, anytime. The sharing of information is critical to our business and when the information is stored and updated online, our team members are all aware of the tasks.
Social media can be a tiring exercise some times. The fast paced media often can leave you behind because you just don’t have the time to always manage and monitor your social media accounts. But then, social media is an important communication tool for many SME’s. Hootsuite allows us to schedule our postings so we’re not always online monitoring it. If you have someone dedicated to posting on social media that’s fine. But many of the SME’s do almost everything themselves. If you can manage your postings and schedule them in advance, you can save a lot of time doing other work that is equally important. You become more efficient in utilising your time.
The thing with the above is that you don’t need to run an internet business to use these tools. You can use them for any business whether it be offline or online.
Do you know any other tools you have used that you would recommend to a wantok operating an SME?
